The New Nature Reservation

Papua New Guinea, the home of many diverse ecosystems in the world, created the first national reservation that it maintains the primeval tropical forests-larger than Singapore.

The decision of the goverment was supported with public and the name of the park will be YUS Protected Area. The name is derived from 3 rivers YOPNO, URUWA and SOM. The protected area has over 760 square kilometres and intervenes from the north PNG up to the inland hills. One of the recent campaigns in the mysterious forests has brought about 60 new species. Among them 50 new species of spiders, three new species of frogs, a new type of lizards and two new species of plants.
